Mary Moorkens is a textile artist from Dublin. She graduated from NCAD and worked initially as a graphic designer. During this time Mary continued to work on her textiles winning two RDS craft awards plus an RDS Trophy. She reached the final of the Irish Designer of the Year awards on three different occasions with her knitwear collections.
Mary also won first place in the accessories category of the Hoffman Challenge and has had her textile pieces in many exhibitions.
Mary works with exquisite precision on detailed embroidery pieces using different fabrics, threads and antique lace. All her work is done by hand. Many of her fabrics and laces are hand dyed using eco dying techniques. She has a particular love for antique lace and for textiles that have a history which Mary believes deserve to be re-invented and given a new life.
Her work is sometimes experimental - sometimes traditional and her stitches are often tiny.
